Listservs or
Forums
|
The
Internet Tourbus |
This Listserv is for general information through a weekly
newsletter. It gives information from Science to the most recent movies.
The archives are accessible with a good amount of information. I
have received a few messages from this Listserv but none of the information
has been valuable to me. |
| Spanish
Phrase of the Day |
On this Listserv I am supposed to receive everyday
a phrase in Spanish, with its pronunciation and translation into English.
I would like to use this Listserv in my classroom to show it on the TV/monitor
for the students to see, as they walk into the classroom. Then, I
can use a phrase of the day as an extra credit for a quiz. |
| ESPAN-L |
This Listserv is for Spanish teachers. In addition
to the category of educatin, it has other categories such as Regional and
Travel, Countries and Languages. I subscribed under the category of Education
and have not received anything yet. |
Telecollaborative
Projects
|
The Diary
Project |
Good project for all school age students. Students
are to send written work related to topics such as discrimination, drugs,
family, and poetry to mention a few. I could use this project in
my class to encourage students to write and exchange written material in
Spanish. |
| Face
to Face |
The purpose of this project is to encourage communication
among students of different countries. This is an international media
education project for high school students from Europe, United States,
and South Africa in which the students exchange video letters. As
a Spanish teacher, I would use this project to communicate with students
mainly from Spain. |
| Global
Grocery List |
This is an ongoing project on its tenth year. The
purpose is to ask classes to go to local grocery stores and record prices
for common items. The classes record the information on the web site
and the data is accessible around the world. In my Spanish class
I would use this project to compare prices and items from Spanish speaking
countries. |

Search Tools
|
metor |
I recommend this search engine tool for general use because
it is easy to use due to the organization of the front page. I shows
access to main search engines to select all of them or just those you wish
to search. It also has an index to topics targeted to all types of
audiences. The results of a given search are assessed by the use of stars
from one to five with five been the best. |
| vivisimo |
This site is a very good one. It does not look attractive
for a very young audience, but it is appropriate for high school students
and adults. I searched for several sites related to Foreign Languages
and it offered me enough web sites to choose from. I recommend
this one. |
| metaq.com |
This search engine is a favorite because With this engine
I am able to access information related to Foreign Language education
in a fast and easy manner. I used this one to search for telecollaborative
projects and it offered me excellent sites. |
Lesson Plan
Sources
|
nwrel.org |
Good site for educators of different areas including Foreign
Languages. In addition to lesson plans, it also provides materials
such as discussions, grants, counseling, educational games, tutorials,
professional development home school, news, and more. |
| cloudnet |
Recommended site for subject areas such as World Languages,
Gifted Education, American Sign Language and Theology among others.
Contains links for many lesson plans in Foreign Languages and the National
Standards in Foreign Language Education. Also includes lessons for
not commonly taught foreign languages in Delaware like Greek, Norwegian,
Polish, Swedish, Russian, and Hmong. Well organized and easy to use. |
Data Sets or
Online Tools
|
transparent.com |
Excellent tool for Foreign Language teachers as well as
for the students. I recommend the educational games and learning
section. Among the games found there the ones I found most useful
for my students are " Vocabulary Master", "Word Seek", and "Unscramble".
It has useful tools for languages other than languages commonly taught
at schools in Delaware. Other languages found are Irish, Portuguese,
Polish, Dutch and Swedish. |
| language.msn.com |
Allows the use of a multilingual dictionary as a tool for
the students and the teacher. The dictionary is as extensive as any
other printed version on paper. For example: type the word perro
and select the languages desired to use such as Spanish and English.
It will provide with its translation and a list of other related translations.
It is easy to access. |
| translator |
Uses a translator for English to French, German, Italian,
Portuguese, and Spanish and vice versa. The translations are only
useful if the student applies them to verify what they have already translated
according to the knowledge learned in class. As a native Spanish
teacher I immediately can identify if a student did the work alone or if
they simply used a translator. This type of tool only translates word by
word, utilizing the most commonly used word, and not necessarily the correct
word for the meaning of the sentence. Caution: never trust
a translator 100%. |
